USA 1999
I really like USA because of all the opportunities it
gives you. It is very different from what I am used to back in Denmark. As I got
the chance to spend 4 months in Florida, Tampa Bay, as part of my education in
Denmark I did not hesitate to go. And I really had a great time there.
I arrived in late January 1999 and as you might know
the weather at that time of the year in Denmark is miserable with snow, rain and
low temperatures. Florida had about 72 degrees Fahrenheit as I got there and it
was never below 65.
I worked at a telemarketing company in Palm Harbor
called The Winn Technology Group. I had
different tasks during my time there, but most of the time I worked as Project
Manager for various outbound projects. I had to make sure that the employees
calling on my projects were informed and trained for the project. I also sent
reports to the clients on a daily basis to inform them how their projects were
doing.
As I like to play a lot of golf Florida was a very good
place to be as they have a zillion golf courses. As I was going back to Denmark
in the beginning of May this was an excellent opportunity for me to prepare for
the season back home. I did practice a lot and also played a lot of rounds when
there was time for it. Most of the courses in Florida are very beautiful and in
very good condition. At the end of my stay I started to play very well and I had
10 consecutive sub-par rounds. Though, it has to be said that the courses I
played all were easier than the course I usually play in Denmark.
Once again, as in 1998, I went to Atlanta - this time
on two occasions - to visit the Nielsen family. When you are as far away from
home as I was it was a great relief to visit Danish friends knowing you can
speak Danish, act Danish and best of all have Danish food - and once again Vibse
did not disappoint me. We played a couple of rounds in the Atlanta area and two
of favorite courses are located in this area. First we played Fields Ferry,
which is a former PGA Tour venue. The course is fairly long with almost no rough
but with a lot of water hazards. The other course, which is really good is
Cobble Stone. From the back-tee it is a fairly long course and with a lot of
trees and a fair amount of water hazards you really have to play your very best
to get around there.
