USA 1998

Jim and I started out spending 4 days in New York - The Big Apple - the city that never sleeps. New York was so much bigger than I would have expected - it was unbelievable. So many people in the streets, so many cars on the roads. I read somewhere that more than 3 million people live on Manhattan - and they all seem to be in a hurry all the time. The average speed on Manhattan is 8 mph 24 hours a day!

Having seen all the huge and tall buildings of New York we were ready to move on. Our next stop was Atlanta where some of my friends from Denmark lived at that time. The flight to Atlanta was horrible as a thunderstorm was approaching the city. We had to circle around for almost 2 hours, then the captain announced that we had only enough fuel for another 15-20 minutes. Now we were scared - but luckily he started the approach only minutes later...

Kim picked us up at the airport in Atlanta in a Limousine and got us safely to their home. This was another huge city with tall buildings and all the stuff, which a huge city has. We were quite excited to have some Danish food again, having lived from burgers and donuts for the first couple of days...and Vibeke did not disappoint us!

Having traveled some 4,000 miles we arrived at Yellowstone National Park. A very big park at the edge of Rocky Mountains. The highest point in the park was about 3,200 meters and there was snow in July. We were just amazed by the difference in the landscape as we traveled across the states up North. I think we took about 100 pictures in the park and spent a couple of days there - the nature there was just fantastic.

In San Francisco we had to see the famous old prison of Alcatrez and it was a very impressive tour we had there.

San Francisco is a very beautiful city and the streets are just like you know them from the movies on TV. It going up and down all the time and it is hard to find a good place to park you car if you want to be sure it does not run away

As you can see the city of San Francisco still uses trams for transportation - a very classic city. The picture on the right shows The Golden Gate from an Island just outside San Francisco.
