Ireland 2001
In April 2001 I moved to Dublin, Ireland. I got a job on a contract as Business Development
Manager at gsmExchange.com. It was perfect for me. I needed a change and was looking for jobs in both
London and Dublin. At this time, the demand for labour was much bigger in Dublin than in London, or should
I say, employers were more desperate to bring people to Dublin than to London, so I ended up in Dublin.
After 3 months with gsmExchange.com I realised that the market for mobile phones was declining rapidly, so
I turned my eyes on jobs elsewhere. With the help of a former fellow student, Karsten Nielsen, I got a job
with IBM Ireland Ltd as Sales Specialist. I was really excited, and still am. To work for the largest IT
company in the world is really something. It has been some journey and I have learned a lot and I have a had
a lot of experiences, good as well as bad. The thing I have enjoyed the most has been the nature of the place
I have been working as people from all of Europe work together in the call centre. I have been working in the
Nordic Team for Hardware. My daily work has involved people from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Ireland.
Even though many people look at the Scandinavian countries as one region, the mentallity, humour and sense of
life is very different in each country. Working with people from different countries have really taught me a
lot about people and how to behave or what to say being together with them.
I have lived several different places in Dublin. Here you see the building I am currently living in.
The young man on the picture to the right is my dad.
In March of 2002 my parents came to Dublin to visit me. We had a really good time travelling a bit around
Ireland and also taking a closer look at Dublin. On the picture below you see my parents in front of a fantastic
view from the mountains of Wicklow.
